How the conversions work
For length, weight, area, volume and speed, each unit has a fixed size compared with a base unit (metre, kilogram, square metre, litre or metre per second). The converter multiplies by the first unit’s size and divides by the second unit’s size.
Temperature is different because the scales start at different points, so it uses formulas:
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
K = °C + 273.15
Worked examples
2.5 acres to gunthas: 1 acre = 40 gunthas, so 2.5 × 40 = 100 gunthas.
100 °C to °F: 100 × 9/5 + 32 = 212 °F.
5 tola to grams: 5 × 11.6638 = 58.32 g (about).

Common mistakes to avoid
- Mixing US and UK gallons. They are different sizes, so a fuel or recipe figure can be off by about 20%.
- Treating temperature like length. Celsius and Fahrenheit start at different points, so you must add or subtract as well as multiply.
- Rounding too early. Convert first and round at the end, especially when you chain several conversions.
- Confusing square units. A square metre is not the same as a metre. Choose the Area type for land and floor sizes.

How many gunthas are in an acre?
1 acre is 40 gunthas. A guntha is taken here as 1,089 square feet, the value used in Maharashtra and Gujarat, and 40 × 1,089 = 43,560 square feet, which is exactly one acre.
How much is a tola in grams?
One tola is about 11.66 grams (11.6638 g), the Indian standard used for gold and silver. Jewellers may round it to 11.66 g.
Is a US gallon the same as a UK gallon?
No. A US gallon is about 3.785 litres and a UK (imperial) gallon is about 4.546 litres. Check which one a recipe, fuel figure or label uses.
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit in my head?
A quick estimate is to double the Celsius number and add 30. For exact answers, multiply by 9/5 and add 32, which is what this converter does.
Why does the converter not offer bigha or other local units?
Units such as the bigha or katha have different sizes in different states, so one fixed number would often be wrong. For land records, use the area printed in your official documents.
How do I convert square feet to gunthas?
Divide the square feet by 1,089. A 5,445 square foot plot is 5,445 ÷ 1,089 = 5 gunthas.
